What is SSL Lookup?
SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) and its successor TLS (Transport Layer Security) are cryptographic protocols that encrypt data between a user's browser and a web server. An SSL certificate is a digital document issued by a Certificate Authority (CA) that authenticates a server's identity. SSL lookup tools connect to a domain and extract the certificate details — including who issued it, what domains it covers (Subject Alternative Names), when it expires, and whether it chains correctly to a trusted root CA. Expired or misconfigured certificates cause browser warnings that drive visitors away and signal poor security hygiene.
